Many have said the Eagles are overrated. Most of these fans find themselves Packers and 49ers fans.
Hello! Check this out:
Jordan Love has 11 interceptions. Are you living under a rock?
Brock Purdy has a TD: INT of 13:8.
Why? How? I went out into the field today and asked one Packers fan (Anderson) and one 49ers fan (Antonio), and asked them what they think about their teams and why they think the Eagles are overrated. After that, I’m going to share a bit of my opinions (non-biased).
Anderson Interview:
Smayan:
Thanks, Anderson, for hopping on to share your opinion.
Anderson:
No problem! Always wanted to be part of this! Love your newsletter!
Smayan:
Thanks for the amazing comments.
First off:
Why do you think the Packers are good?
Anderson:
Sports teams need amazing GMs, and one of the biggest reasons I like the Packers is because they have one. Their new editions such as Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney have been paying off stupendously.
Let’s not forget about coaches, though. Their defense is getting much better and this has been the case ever since they hired Jeff Haffley as the DC.
Smayan:
I have my thoughts on the defensive thing. First of all, the Packers have the 12th-best defense in the league, allowing 329.8 yards a game. Now, they have improved by 5 places from last year, but this is only total yards. When you take a look at passing defense, the Packers have gone down quite a bit. Now, there’s still time for change. The Packers could easily fall 5 places or go up 5 places.
The addition of Josh Jacobs is being talked about so much right now, but no one’s even thinking about Jahmyr Gibbs. He’s literally splitting time with David Montgomery (720 yards), and still has just 14 yards less than Josh Jacobs. Jacobs has had some great games, but hasn’t been consistent.
Let’s continue:
You’re one of the idiots who think that the Eagles are overrated? Why?
Anderson:
I think that the Eagles are overrated because of Saquon, and he’s literally their whole team. Look at last year before Saquon, they struggled a lot.
Smayan:
My question now becomes, have you ever watched an Eagles game?
Saquon is carrying the team. No question about that. But, he’s not their entire team. The Eagles defense is #1 in the league. Your love Jordan Love is 23rd in EPA, while Jalen Hurts has been hurting teams all year, coming in 7th in EPA ranking. In fact, Jalen Hurts is ahead of Jordan Love in almost every passing stat.
AJ Brown leads Romeo Doubs in every stat. Devonta Smith leads Dontayvion Wicks in all receiving stats.
But, aside from all that I said, I think your claims are fair. Thanks for coming on, Anderson.
Antonio Interview:
Smayan:
Now, to Antonio, a lifelong 49ers fan. Antonio, thanks for coming to Sports Square.
Antonio:
Hey Smayan! Thanks for having me on. Your newsletter is a daily read for me, and I get a lot of inside info out of it. This site is becoming my sports hub.
Smayan:
That’s exactly what I’m aiming for with Sports Square. Appreciate that you like it.
Let’s begin:
Why do you think the 49ers are good?
Antonio:
Around the 2019 season, the 49ers were very consistent in making it to the championship game, even with Jimmy Garroppolo. All our QBs, including Kaepernick, Garroppolo, Lance, and even Purdy to an extent, have been very effective and good for the team. With Purdy, during his rookie season, he got us to the Super Bowl, and this season hasn’t been too good. Just like the Madden Curse, maybe the marriage curse is killing him. We know he still has it in him, but he needs to show that to us soon. The 49ers have kinda committed on Purdy.
Now to the defense. The defense for us was top-tier past 3 years, and I think the defense has been in their prime. Fred Warner has been amazing. Charvarius Ward (sorry for his loss). Nick Bosa has always been the cream of the crop. Chase Young was good in the Super Bowl. Talanoa Hufanga was pretty good.
Smayan:
I really like this answer, because this is in fact the truth. Purdy had his shine and he had his chance, but he hasn’t really used it right this season. Now, it’s only one season, and everyone has down years, but if this is how bad Purdy’s going to perform during his down years, then the 49ers really need to think about training him a bit more.
QBs in the NFL can’t be Josh Allen one year, and then turn into Mac Jones!
Next:
You’re one of the idiots who think that the Eagles are overrated? Why?
Antonio:
In my honest opinion, I really like this team, even after that defeat in the NFC Championship game. That was the moment all my friends started hating on Philly.
The one thing that’s really overrated about this team is their O-Line. I don’t understand why people are still talking about the O-Line, and dragging up how good it is/was. It’s not just the commentators. It’s those sports blogs, too. Cam Jurgens isn’t all going to be the next Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson’s age is only going to keep growing. Philadelphia has always struck on o-line depth and picks, but it might be time to revamp the whole thing again. Jalen Hurts needs time to throw.
Smayan:
Amen to that. You spoke my mind.
My Opinion:
Certain aspects of this Eagles team are certainly overrated. For one, the offensive line (like Antonio said), definitely deserves less credit for the job they’re doing.
But, in general, if you think about the Eagles, they’re a team that nobody really talks about.
In 2023, the first person anyone thought about when someone mentioned the Eagles was either AJ Brown or Jalen Hurts.
This year, the first person anyone thought about would be Saquon Barkley. That’s just how good he’s playing.
If you subtract Saquon Barkley, you would probably have a 9-3 Eagles team. You also wouldn’t have anyone talking about the Eagles, other than the Philly faithful. What Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, but more specifically, the Eagles defense is doing, is going quiet. This team is “secretly” the #1 defense in the league.
I don’t know, dude, but I really like what the Eagles are building right now. All the Lions need is one loss, and the Eagles will move in front for the #1 seed.
Overrated? What are you talking about?
The Eagles are the most UNDERRATED team in the National Football League.
Conclusion:
With that, Sports Summit #3 concludes. #4 will be the final one, and it’ll be a good one.
This overrated aspects thing is something I want to continue over the next several weeks and into the new year. I’ve found a lot of NFL players overrated, and I want to expand this and make it articles. (Aaron Rodgers is next LOL.)
Thanks a lot for reading.
The Eagles are frauds, they’ll get exposed in the playoffs. 7 of their last 8 games were against subpar teams. They rely on other teams to beat themselves. I know I’m a little biased because I am a division rival, but that is what I’ve seen from them
The Eagles are not overrated. Maybe I’m biased because I bleed green all day. I was born bleeding green. Okay, yeah! I’m 100% biased.
We were doing well last year for quite a bit of the season. Then I don’t know what happened, but something went wrong, and BOOM!!! Game over (literally). It was quite sad because it was Jason Kelce’s last year playing. (We love #62 💚🦅.)
I think we’re doing somewhat okay this year. I say that in all honesty because we’ve been winning games by the skin of our teeth. But a win is a win, and I’ll take it.
I understand some people saying the Eagles are overrated. I’m okay with that. There are haters in every crowd (sometimes two).
I think people hate on the Eagles because they don’t like the rudeness of us fans. We can’t help it. We’re extremely passionate about our team. There’s nothing wrong with fan loyalty. Besides wins, isn’t that what a football team really wants? We love our birds. Philadelphia Eagles fans are ride or die!
But don’t get it twisted. We’ll definitely let our boys know when they’re not playing up to par. We don’t mess around. Us fans can give them love one hour, then want to choke the life out of them the next. We cheer loudly and boo them even louder. The players will tell you—the fans are crazy. I mean, we are the team that threw snowballs at Santa Claus.
We’re used to people calling us overrated and other derogatory terms. We’re surrounded by our enemies.
We live in an area where our rivals are very close to us. You can drive two hours north of Philly and reach the NY Giants. Drive two hours south, and you reach the Commanders. (I still have a hard time with the name change—I keep slipping and calling them the Redskins.)
Philly is smack dab in the middle of our two enemies, and we see their fans all the time.
There’s constantly a lot of smack talk going on between us. I run into one of their fans at least twice a day. It’s fun to mess with them—they dish it out right back. The things we say to each other are insane. We definitely can’t stand each other. Eagles fans often flip them the bird 🖕🏼. Get it? Flip ’em the “bird” 🦅 (pun intended).
However, there is one time, and one time only, where we actually cheer each other on—a time when we come together as a brotherhood. When is that, you ask? Well, let me tell you. We come together strong when any of us are playing the Dallas Cowgirls (that’s not a typo). None of us can stand them! I don’t like to use the word “hate,” but honestly, we all HATE them with a passion!!!
Although Dallas is nowhere near the East Coast, we constantly see their fans everywhere—and I mean EVERYWHERE! It’s so annoying. I don’t know where you’re from, but I’m sure you see them from time to time as well. (Hopefully, you’re not a Cowgirls fan. And if you are—🖕🏼🖕🏼.)
Dallas fans come out of nowhere. They’re like gremlins. If you spill water on them, they multiply. I’m also pretty sure somebody fed them after midnight. (If you know, you know.) They’re sprinkled all across America like Tinker Bell’s fairy dust. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law is one of those Cowgirls fans. (No! I’m not stopping calling them that.) My brother-in-law is from Brazil, so what does he know? He calls soccer “football,” so there’s your sign. (Sidenote: I do love my brother-in-law—just not during the real FOOTBALL season.)
The Eagles, Giants, and Commanders become besties when either one of us is playing that blue and silver team. (Honestly, we all wish they would stick their star up their asses.) When my rival teams are playing the Girlie Boys (is calling them that better?), I become a Giants or Commanders fan for about three hours. Then I go right back to hating them too.
I know I got off on quite a tangent—my apologies. Like I said, Eagles fans are passionate about our team. But I said all of this really just to state that:
No One Likes Us.
We DON’T Care!!!!!
Go Birds!!!
Fly Eagles Fly!
