The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith.

That’s a great return for the Detroit Tigers, and for those thinking it’s a small return, just remember it’s a rental. Teams may have offered a lot, but they would definitely think twice before going overboard. The Dodgers have the best farm system in baseball, so of course a big package like this was on the table. But the other suitors here were small market. The Rays talk a big game about wanting him, but they weren’t sending real prospects for two months of a rental. The Brewers might have stretched a little further, but their system isn’t top three either. Nobody in the room was offering a 10/10, so the Dodgers didn’t need to send one to win it.

Reportedly, the Brewers may have offered Luis Peña or Robert Gasser, but these reports are unconfirmed. The Rays may have offered Ian Seymour.
