Everyone’s doing season previews — but we’re doing something different. The
Captains’ Code is all about what really makes or breaks an NFL team. It’s not just about rosters or vibes. It’s about the identity, the pressure points, the bold calls, and the one thing that could send everything crashing down… or finally take them over the top. No filler. Just straight-up football breakdowns that tell you what actually matters heading into 2025.
The X-Factor That Will Make or Break This Season
The Commanders made some major moves in the offseason, acquiring some new talent to this roster that made the NFC Championship. They brought in two new stars that can improve this team. The X-Factor and crucial piece is Laremy Tunsil. He is an elite pass protector, but his run blocking will be put to the test. If he can anchor his side of the line, it will give the offense the space to be elite.
Last Year’s Numbers:
5th in points scored per game (28.5), 7th in total offense (369.6 yards per game), 3rd in rushing yards per game (154.1), 17th in passing offense (215.6 yards per game), 18th in points allowed per game (23.0), 13th in total yards allowed (327.5), 4th in opponent passing yards per game, 30th in opponent rushing yards per game.
Key Player(s) to Watch: The Heroes and the Wild Cards
The hero of this team is Jayden Daniels, of course. This roster is built around him and it thrives with him. The truth of the matter is, Jayden Daniels' play this season can elevate the team to new heights. The wild card is Deebo Samuel, the Swiss Army Knife who can change the game with one play. Despite his regression, he is a versatile player as a receiver and a runner, which Kingsbury can utilize. His presence also takes pressure off Terry McLaurin.
Coaching: What’s Different This Year?
The Commanders saw their entire staff returning, with only a major change at assistant specials team coach. This coaching stability allows them to keep the culture in-tact and will be good to build upon last season.
The Bold Prediction
Commanders win the NFC and Jayden Daniels wins the NFL MVP
The Realistic Win Total & Why
11-6. This schedule is much more difficult and they need to prove they can contend with the big boys. However, the talent on this team plus Jayden Daniels at QB make the Commanders tough competitors and they can get to 11 wins.
The Biggest Question Mark Heading Into 2025
Can this defense stop the run? This was a significant weakness (exposed in the NFC championship) and without a good run stop, the defense will be vulnerable and make it difficult to win games. This issue will come to light in the postseason again.
My Takeaway
The Commanders have all the pieces in place to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The foundation is set with a young star quarterback and a determined coaching staff. The new talent will make them even more dangerous, and if the run defense can improve, this team will be an absolute force. One liner: The window is open, and the Commanders are ready to take their shot.
